I too have had a purple sunburn experience (shoulders though and after falling asleep on a raft in a swimming pool with NO sunscreen on - supremely stupid I know) and it's horrible. I went through bottles of the blue goo stuff with lidocaine in it - sweet, sweet pain relief. I hope you're recovering and let's get together soon! Emily!
