I Am (Almost) Banned!

Okay, so it’s not actually me personally that’s almost banned.  Sometimes I have a hard time separating myself from my book.

It’s actually THE WAY HE LIVED that’s being challenged in Lake County, Florida.   And with this being Banned Books Week and everything, the timing couldn’t be better!   Or make me happier.    Not that I’m happy people want to ban books, which is bad, bad, bad.   But when these elusive “people” succeed, others are like, hey, you can’t tell me what I can’t read! and they go on and read it anyway.  Making us as a society stronger as we prove that indeed we ARE capable of thinking for ourselves.  And now THE WAY HE LIVED is  one of those books making people think!

I should mention that I’m in very good company–seriously, I’m such a fangirl that I get a thrill even from being on the same list as these people.   We’re talking Holly Black, John Green, Maureen Johnson and a bunch of others, including author of the ever-controversial Gossip Girls series.  I mean, to be on a list with the likes of Gossip Girl…it’s just surreal.

You know you love me!

xoxo

Congratulations, Em. I think this means you’ve made it!

  2. Sara B Says:

We do love you … and your book, which is real and addresses some REAL issues: Suicide (or the possibility thereof), homosexuality and mental illness in TEENS. Gasp.

Look at you, Ranger Danger. :) Writing about the things that get swept underneath the proverbial carpet. Ban away, it won’t stop your readership.

  3. Debbie Says:

Wow. I’m curious how you find out about something like this. Do those “people” write to you, your agent your publisher or is it just passed around and you catch wind of it? Bittersweet. :)

  4. Britt, Book Habitue Says:

    Congrats! (Sort of…)

    :D

  5. melissa @ 1lbr Says:

Seriously, you’ve arrived. You will now be (in)famous! I better go get my hands on your book, now. :)

    Hi Emily :)
I found you via Bree’s blog.
Book banners should be forced to wear full Nazi regalia all the time so people know what they stand for.
Yes, you are in great company.
Mark Twain would be proud of you!
I know I’m going to get THE WAY HE LIVED now.
    Love & Best Wishes,

You’re my hero, Emily. I just started writing a book that will surely be banned someday. Can’t wait to join the ranks of the likes of you!

  13. Jenni Elyse Says:

    That’s awesome! Congratulations!

I think it’s so strange that a group of people try to decide which books we can and can’t read. It seems so Un-American. But, like you said, so many people will read your book just to read it now. :)
